Help I want to change my electricity
Hi
I am on a pre pay key meter with British Gas at the moment but want to change to a normal meter. I am not sure how to compare or find the best deal as the comparison sites are like for like.
It probably me just not getting it but if anyone can help that would be great.
Thanks

You can't have a credit meter tariff when you have a pre-payment meter.0

Comparison sites are indeed like for like as they should all show the same annual cost (except for any shared referral discount that a PCW might offer).
To run a comparison you need 2 things: one, your postcode and, two, your annual consumption for gas and electricity in kWHs/year. I work out my annual projections by looking at two statements a year apart using ACTUAL meter readings. If you do not have this information to hand, then contact your supplier and ask them for the ANNUAL QUANTITY for gas and ESTIMATED ANNUAL CONSUMPTION for electricity for your property. This is historical data held on database for your property based on your actual consumption corrected for seasonal variations. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I would have thought contacting your supplier would be the best approach.
Only they can decide if they are willing to grant you credit (and if so, under what terms), and so arrange a replacement meter.
Price comparison sites don't do this, sorry.

Previous posts have pointed up that BG take a hard line with changes from Pre-pay to Credit meters.
They run deep search credit checks, and even when these come up as OK they can still refuse.
EDF have a more relaxed attitude, so if BG are being difficult a Switch to EDF will get a Credit meter, and then another Switch for better prices is the way to go0 -
Typically you'll be charged around £60 for a meter change to a credit meter, so factor this in. Though that price can be negotiable. No free lunch, and no free laptop
