Does the winning bidder know my home address?

Hi guys,

I sold an item on ebay via auction and XYZ won it. After 8 days I hadn't had any contact whatsoever after numerous polite reminders. So I file a NPB dispute.

He contacts me by email saying he is still interested (As he didn't contact through ebay I couldn't close the NPB dispute as it was still classed as waiting on contact - I now have to wait 8 days to close the NPB - very clever method used by bidder to draw the sale out)

I contact him giving him 3 days to pay as this is now stretched out to 10 days.

Nothing.

So I offer the item to the second highest bidder who pays promptly and I ship the item.

Tonight 7 days after filing the dispute XYZ out of the blue pays, with an unconfirmed address which is different from the original one he had on file. It stinks of fraud to me.

I refund his payment and explain as per my terms of sale as he didn't pay within my timeframe the item is no longer available.

He becomes threatening and aggressive.

Forward to now... should I ignore him or report him to ebay? Will he have my address as he was the winning bidder?

ps. also how come I can also leave feedback for him when the item never got sold to him in the end? Does this mean he can Negative me as well?

Thanks :mad::o

Sorry for the long read :j

  • He can request your address, you'll know if he does bother to as you'll get an email with his details on it too.

And he can leave a neg for you, but I think the unpaid item dispute cancels out the neg.

Also, the winning bidder email will have contained your name and postcode. That’s often enough to pin someone down. If you’re in the phone book, you appear on the current edited electoral role or you lived at your current address before the concept of the edited electoral role existed, you can easily be looked up using the Internet.

Did he reply to the unpaid dispute through the dispute console, if he did then he can leave feedback. If he did not reply throught the dispute console then he can leave feedback but the rating will be removed, so the comment is visible but won't affect your feedback score.

    Thanks guys!

The dispute console said he still wanted the item when payment was made, but no actual message was typed so I presume he just ticked a box?

Ive looking in his bidding history and he has over x20 winning bids on similar items to mine in the space of 4 days :(

I've lost over £300 on ebay in the past so very cautious now
