Buy an item 2 sell on ebay. Warranty?

I'm thinking of buying an electrical item from a website to sell on ebay, as a one off.

My question is, where would the buyer stand with a warranty. I am only a private seller, and don't provide warrantys.

Would the buyer be able to use the manufacturers warranty?

If it went wrong, would the buyer have to provide details of where they purchased from?

And would a manufacturer accept an 'ebay receipt'?

Items from a private seller are effectively secondhand. You really have to read what the warranty says is needed to qualify. If the item was bought with cash you could send the receipt with the item (but that will give away the price you paid).
Ebay receipt would be an interesting one, if it works.
  • If the OP has bought the item specifically to sell, does that make him a trader and therefore liable for the warranty (and all the other legal protection a consumer has)?

Not at all. The OP is clearly trading in the true sense of the word as there is no lower limit for the number of items that need to be sold before someone is trading..you are a trader from the very first item you buy to sell.

Anyway, regardless of that even a trader cannot automatically pass on a warranty, that depends on the item and the terms of any warranty, so there is no clear cut answer here.

i would say it really depends on the item/warrenty.
eg some manufacturers deal directly with warrenty.
hard drives are a good example, whack in the serial number, organise an RMA and job done without any proof of purchase

And the answers as given above would be 'depends on the manufacturer and item'.
