reliability audi A3

It seems a great place to let others know about ways of saving money. One way might be NOT to buy an automatic from this premium brand. The Mechatronics units which operate the DSG gearbox are prone to fail. They cost £1500 to repair. All you ever read about in magazines are how good these gearboxes are. They are when they work but be aware that this unit makes it all work and is a very expensive repair. Audi simply did not want to know. Mine failed at 83000 miles which I consider poor for a car you pay such a price for.

Did you have the recommended oil change?

Mine failed at about 10,000 miles and was on its way out again when I traded it at 30,000.

A friends TT DSG failed at not much more.

Anyone who has an interest in cars advises to avoid any dual clutch gearbox outside of warranty. They are right.

Agreed, correct timing of gearbox oil changes seem critical to these, even then I'd never buy one that was out of warranty.
