Hiked energy prices following house move

Hi, we moved into a new home at the beginning of November and immediately did a price comparison for the property which resulted in a switch to our previous supplier, Npower. Co-op were providing energy yo our new home and so they were given notice of the switch straight away.
It took 6 weeks for the change to take place and we just received a bill from the Co-op for this period and it is clear that we have been charged an extremely inflated rate.
In retrospect, we could have called and queried (the rates were explicit in their communication), however given the other many tasks we didn't notice what they were charging.
Given the fact that we had no say in this tariff or supply, do I have any means of recourse? If not, have any right to pay the bill over a longer period? (They have requested payment within 14 days)
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. Deemed contracts are at the supplier’s standard variable rate as they are not permitted to put you on to a cheaper fixed tariff without your agreement. Deemed contracts exist so that when you move into a property you do not have to wait a minimum of 14 days for the supply to be connected. With the benefit of hindsight, a fixed tariff with the existing supplier might have been a cheaper option - but this depends on time of year and usage.

I doubt that the supplier will give you time to pay as you are no longer a customer.
