Hi all, for all those who switched to EDF in February have any of you thought or has any of you switched/ thinking of switching to Simply Fixed Renewal Feb 2019.

It’s renewal and review time for my gas & ’leccie
My current provider (EDF) tells me I can save £338.82 per year by transferring to their best online offer

His Cheap Energy site says the self same deal on offer will cost me an extra £310

Who do I trust and why the difference?

Trust; Well not the company looking giving me the easy option of pressing a screen button
Why the difference? It’s in the small print on the EDF bill

This is based on an estimate of your usage last
year. It includes your current tariff until 28 Feb
2018 and our current Standard (Variable) prices
thereafter

EDF have actually been no problem but this sleight of screen will make me switch, even if it’s back to a more expensive OVO energy deal.

Or to cost me just £25 more than current plan Sainsburys Energy but accepting potential bad service from British Gas.

Every supplier's quote will use the same method of calculating the "savings".

Fair enough, EDF not to blame for the calculation method. But who allows this method which confused me?
I’d like to compare future costs against what I’ve been paying, NOT what I’d pay on a possibly artificially high tariff.
I was about to grab the apparent “cheaper” deal until Martin Lewis’s mantra of not auto renewing kicked in.

EDF are certainly using the method to their advantage. Guess we just have to be suspicious of any cheaper deals.

Have just re-read the Cheap Energy comparison.
The £310 extra is the [FONT=&quot]Blue+Price Protection Feb19 [/FONT]
The one above it is the Online Saver Feb19, which is only £24 extra.

That means I’ll probably accept EDF’s Online Saver Feb19 offer,
Go with the status quo and avoid the newer cheaper players in the market.

The simply fixed renewal Feb19 is what EDF have offered in their email which has slightly cheaper unit rates......

In comparison to current tariff Simply Fix Feb18
Elec Standing charge/day 15.75p Unit rate 13.99p Kw/h
Gas Standing charge/day 15.75p Unit rate 2.954p KW/h

I understand different areas get different rates but in my Case Online saver is not the cheapest. According to their guestimates I will be saving £141.32 on Simply fix renewal Feb19 and £133.29 with Online Saver Feb19. So it worth checking and as everyone says Every Little Helps :-)

Bare in mind the annual savings they quote on EDFs website regarding various plans is priced against as if we were on the Standard Variable rate and not against the current plan we are on.
Although at the moment I still think it compares pretty well with the current market especially the bigger suppliers
FWIW Bulb came out no cheaper for me.

I am on EDF Online Saver August 2018 and made a healthy saving of over £100 from the previous Blue+ Price Protection deal. Online Saver is paperless and online only.

I could have obtained a cheaper deal (not by much) with a smaller company, but I like EDF's customer service, efficient and easy to use website, and their great Chatline, which allows me to sort out any hassle quickly. "Cheaper" does not always mean better.

My renewal review shows me why many just renew automatically !!
It’s been time consuming, confusing, intriguing, sometimes baffling
but eventually satisfying.
I’m amazed that my best deal is the opposite of kezto’s
Based on costs below.

Standing charges; no differences between EDF Simply Fixed and Online Saver elec or gas
Online Saver Feb 2019 electricity unit charge = 14.69p per kWh
Simply Fixed Feb 19 electricity unit charge = 15.79p per kWh

Online Saver Feb 2019 gas unit charge = 2.717p per kWh
Simply Fixed Feb 19 gas unit charge = 2.917p per kWh

I never realised how regional variation could impact costs that significantly.
Have also experienced the EDF online chat system & quite liked it once I’d worked out the need to be specific.

My end result is renewal with EDF at end of my current simply fixed feb 2018 onto the Online Saver Feb 2019
Taking current plan as £0, Online Saver Feb 2019 would be plus £20, Simply Fixed Feb 2019 would be plus £148
And the ridiculous EDF comparison against their SVR plus £418

Martin Lewis’s Cheap Energy site didn’t list the “exclusive” Simply Fixed Feb 2019 but did give me the cheapest EDF plan.
EDF DID give me their cheapest plan but only after pressing that renew button and reading their pricesand ignoring their suggestion.

So that’s it for another year
Anyone have a crystal ball to say whether a 2 year fix would have been better J
And whether Avro Energy would have been worth a punt
