How to get the money back bank transferred to House owner by mistake..?

A friend of mine encountered a problem with a bank transfer. He had set up a Standing Order to pay his house rent monthly..say £950/= to his house owner. Now He moved out from that house and now is staying somewhere else.
Unfortunately he forgot to CANCEL the standing order so that a payment of rental amount transferred to the former house owner's bank account weeks ago. Bank told him to contact house owner to get his money back. He now has cancelled the standing order but didnt get his money back from the former house owner.
For the last 2 weeks, he has been contacting former house owner explaining this money transfer and requesting to send the money back to his account. F.H.owner too saying he would contact his bank and do but still didnt send . Friend now is worried as sometimes will loose this money as house owner now not responding his calls...
What should friend do to get his money back ? please advise

I think it’s a bit early to go via the SCC.

Just in case anybody posts on here - this is not a bank error so there is no mechanism for them to get the money back.
It is not the same as if a faster payment had been made to wrong account in error.0 -

Being a bit nitpicky BACS payments can be recalled although not after the recipient has received them.
But I appreciate in these circumstances a BACS recall is out of the question.0 -

:)
Even more nitpicky it depends on whether the bank supports faster payments but in almost all cases they do.0 -

To be not nitpicky at all, in order to meet the Payment Services Directives that came into force in 2012 there is no retail customer initiated electronic payment method other than CHAPS that doesn't use Faster Payments, so any bank that doesn't support it cannot offer electronic payment anyway.
Can you name any UK bank that does not have some sort of link into FPS?0 -
Remind your friend about their c.£1k deposit as well.0

Or that if the deposit was not in a tenancy deposit scheme as required then that they should report itEx forum ambassador

I too recently made a faster payment in error, and when I got no joy from the recipient, I contacted my bank, Santander, who managed to recover he payment for me.0
