Bookings.com have taken payment 6 months before travel!

Hi my son is off to Croatia in June to one of the Festivals. He has booked his accommodation through Bookings.com.
The full payment for 2 apartments was taken last week.
Is this usual? It seems very early.

booking.com follow whatever the hotel policy is so it'll vary. They are usually very good at setting out the payment/cancellation terms. What did they say? They don't usually charge themselves, usually the hotel does the charging, but there is the odd exception.

I'd be very surprised if all the conditions weren't clear before your son pressed the BOOK button, and also on the confirmation that Booking.Com sent.

Like Zagflies says above individual hotels set their own conditions, so it's v.important to read and understand them before making a booking.

There's either 2 or 3 options when you complete the booking

    Pay now with no cancellation

Pay now but allowed to cancel

    Pay on arrival

    And other conditions, such as...

    - Whether payment can be made by card or not, and which one(s).

    - Whether payment can only be made in cash, and which currency.

    - Pay now often attracts a reduced rate.

    - How you pay may mean the difference between included breakfast or not.

Everything should be clear when booking and repeated on the confirmation.

I've got 9 bookings so far for next year through Booking.com in Macedonia and Romania, and nearly all have different conditions. But I make sure I'm clued up before booking, and always use the useful option of making early contact with the hotel or guest house as soon as I've booked.

I've only needed to cancel on one occasion in the past at nil penalty, and it was done instantly and without fuss.
  • Booking.com didn't take his money. The apartments did. All the terms/policies attached to that particular apartment will be well laid out several times during the booking process.
