Probation Periods.........

Can you be let go at anytime during these for no reason? like could an employer just say you're being let go and not give a reason even if you haven't done anything wrong. I'm just wondering how they work and also where would you stand in claiming benefits after losing a job this way.

You can, unless the reason is discriminatory (race, sex, disability etc.).

If you are dismissed through no fault of your own then you should be eligible for JSA straightaway x
    Gone ... or have I?

you will get jsa as the employer does not have to give a reason so jsa cannot investigate. If you leave without good reason or sacked for gross misconduct then jsa is affected

It is worth saying that the probationary period is a bit of a red herring - you can be let go for almost any reason in the first year of employment because you have no right to claim unfair dismissal.

I am not sure where the advice from sarahdd is coming from but it is very misleading. Yes, and employer does not have to tell JSA why someone leaves - but why would they not? dmg24 is actually quite correct - if you are dismissed through no fault of your own then JSA ought not to be affected, but there may be reasons other than "leaving with good cause or sacked" (no idea why the gross misconduct is in there - being sacked for any reason will affect JSA) which are deeemd to be your fault. This may include termination due to failure to perform satisfactorily, for example, which some JSA officers may consider to be your fault..
