If I have a SIM in the phone but my payment plan lapses can I still use the phone as a camera and music player? Can I still use it to access wifi in hotspots?

    Yes you can
  • You don't even need a sim in the phone, it just turns into a small tablet.

Some free wifi hotspots ask for a mobile verification.

Worth having something like Three's Data Reward sim.
It's free with 200mb data added each month.
You can even keep your current number if you get a PAC from your current provider.

That looks like it's just for use abroad.

I got one for Feel at home but it comes in handy as a second network at home. i use mine in a MIFI but it would be fine for phone data.

It is not necessary to buy 30 day bundles as long as you top up at an ATM or possibly a voucher. The free 200 Mb is used before any credit so very handy for occasional use.

For heavy use its best to buy bundles or use a different SIM, for OP hoping to use mostly WIFI it would be a good choice.

So you have to top-up to get more free data?!

No to get the free 200 Mb each month you just have to register it and make sure you use it regularly, ( every 6 months I think)

I agree it looks like its for use abroad but it works fine at home as well.

I have some credit on mine incase I go over the free 200Mb.

If you top up at the three website it insists on the purchase of a time limited data package, I don't use it much so added some credit at an ATM, this is used per Mb and does not expire.
