Holidays booked with Ryanair - what about my accommodation!?

So we have holidays booked in November and December (flights with Ryanair) We were booking accommodation through AirBNB on the 1st of October, but now i am concerned that they will still be cancelling flights then as a report in the guardian says there will be more cancellations.

A. I don't want to pay up front and then the flight get cancelled so i cant go?
B. If i do book then it gets cancelled what rights do i have to claim the accommodation fee back?

If i use a credit card can i claim it back if the flight gets cancelled? Any information/advice on this would be greatly received.

Thank You in advance.

Jack

    ^^^ I agree.

Annoying and potentially costly as it may be when booking flight and accommodation separately, therewill be no consequential protection given by the carrier. You are entitled to the compensation under EU regulations and no more. The consequences are what your travel insurance should cover - but you must make sure you have a policy that covers the events in the basic package or as a taken optional extra. Not all policies have good cover and it may well be a bit more expensive. Take (or make sure you already have ) appropriate cover as soon as you book.

You get a bit more protection (but not consequential losses outwith that provided by ATOL cover) for flights and accommodation booked 'together' through agents...that have that cover, check first!.....for Flight Plus.

Package bookings give you even more cover but again are not a substitute for insurance.

I am not sure that AirBNB will give any worthwhile protection or cover so best to check on that!

A case of paying your money and taking your choice!
  • p.s. not sure if the credit card section 75 cover will protect you other than the basic cost of the flight i.e. whether the compensation element is covered.
I would doubt it but hopefully someone with more knowledge can respond!

Ryanair would have to comply and follow EU261 regarding a refund on your flights. Depending on when the cancellation is made you may also receive compensation for the flight cancellation.

You have no 'rights' regarding the separately booked accommodation. Ryanair are not obligated to cover those costs. This is one of the pit falls in a DIY non-packaged holiday arrangement.

If one element of a package fails (like the cancellation of the flight) then you would have the right to a refund the whole package should a suitable alternative not be offered or available.

As others have said you could look for suitable cover on your travel insurance but the cheaper policies are unlikely to offer such cover for the consequential loss of the Air BnB accommodation.

Just a thought but could you look at a hotel or apartment which you could pick a refundable rate on? Slightly more expensive but this will give you some flexibility on dismantling your holiday plans should your flight be cancelled.
