Reclaiming PPI

I extended my mortgage in 2007 with Alliance and Leicester. They required me to take out insurance to cover being made redundant and critical illness cover to be able to get the mortgage. I was able to get the required insurance with another provider and had to provide proof to the A&L that I had the required insurance, before the mortgage was approved. can I claim for PPI in these circumstances as I would not have taken out the insurance otherwise?

Comments

  • No. It was required in order to get the mortgage.

No. Even if they lied to you, as you did not buy it through them, they have no liability. And they almost certainly did lie to you as A&L had no insurance requirements in 2007 other than buildings insurance.

If you had bought via A&L then they would carry liability for the sale. As you bought elsewhere, they have no liability.

Are you sure you didn't go through a broker for the mortgage?
