Over payment of Tax Credits

My Tax Credits just went down recently. I phoned them and was told it was due to an over payment that they were taking back at 25% off our current payments per week. I agreed this was ok with the man i spoke to and thought that would be the end of it.

Well today i received a letter from HMRC saying i owe money due to a TC over payment and it needs to be paid back by 17th October.

Why have they sent this letter if they have already sorted taking the over payment back? Do i need to contact them or will their system eventually realise that it's already been sorted?
