Over payment of Tax Credits

My Tax Credits just went down recently. I phoned them and was told it was due to an over payment that they were taking back at 25% off our current payments per week. I agreed this was ok with the man i spoke to and thought that would be the end of it.
Well today i received a letter from HMRC saying i owe money due to a TC over payment and it needs to be paid back by 17th October.
Why have they sent this letter if they have already sorted taking the over payment back? Do i need to contact them or will their system eventually realise that it's already been sorted?

Yes, it's for the same amount that i was told about over the phone.0 -
You'll need to speak to them about it then.0

Ring them back and tell them that it was agreed you would pay it off weekly. They only have to listen to the recorded phone call (and all phone calls to and from tax credits are reported) to confirm this. Remind them of the date and time you called them.Overactively underachieving for almost half a century0
