Hi all, my wife has been offered a cleaning job about 17 hours a week for £170 cash in hand, if she takes this work will I have to tell the Job center and will it affect my benefits (income based JSA), we live in a Housing associations house get housing benefit and council tax help, we also have two children 13 and 7 years old.

Yes on all counts. You must inform JSA and her income will affect the amount of JSA you receive. In fact that income will probably wipe out entitlement to income based JSA.0

Why will she be working cash in hand?0

Ah thanks for all the info, we'll have to find her a better paid job so that we can survive on her wage alone, I can't work atm due to health reasons.0

Why are you claiming JSA if you can't work? Might there be overtime available in her job, or could she get more clients?
You'll still receive some help if that is your only income. Run your figures through a benefit calculator to get an estimate.0 -

I don't think working cash in hand is wrong but you must inform JCP+0 -

There's nothing wrong with being paid cash however the term cash in hand is typically used when referring to avoiding paying tax/nic.0 -
Working over 16 hours will mean you are kicked off JSA.0
