Manchester Airport T1 Departure Security

We are going to be travelling to USA from T1 M/C airport shortly and heard some horror stories about security (3rd hand) and just wondering if anyone has any recent experience. FYI we will be travelling at 10-30am and intend getting to the airport at 7-30am at the moment.

  • We flew out early morning in August (European flight) queues moved along quite fast - plenty of people around to show you where to go.

I would get there as soon as you can - you can always spend time having a meal if you get through early.

I haven't flown through for a few weeks but T1 was historically busy in the couple of hours before the Emirates flights (10am/2pm/9pm) or Etihad (9am/8.30pm)

Given your in a similar time to those I'd be getting in early and planning for breakfast after security
  • OP, you don't give any details i.e. time taken to clear security or attitude of security staff etc.

Given that you are travelling at non peak (not school holiday) period, three hours should be enough if there are no problems with the travellers or passports and Estas etc. On my recent flights to and from Man this year there have been queues but the longest was about 20 minutes.

Maybe give yourself a little extra time for any unexpected traffic problems.
  • I went through a few days ago, was about 15 mins from joining the queue to finishing repacking my bag. :)

Same here, going to USA 15 mins max. Had to get out tablet and kindle and take off shoes, empty pockets etc.

Worryingly I found my combined penknife / corkscrew / bottle opener in my cabin luggage bag a couple of days into the holiday not picked up by security. Fortunately i had no intension of attacking anyone or hijacking an aircraft.
