Child benefit

Am just looking for some advice really. So my partner has a son from a previous marriage who is 7. Now me and him have a daughter and currently we get child benefit for our daughter but my step son has now come to live with us. We claim child benefit for my daughter as a first child how would we be affected once we make a claim for his son would my daughter's money go down to the second child rate even though she is my first and only child. I don't get how it all works for this situation. We don't qualify for tax credits. Even with an extra child.

you will be entitled to child benefit for 2 children- one first child payment and one second child payment. Does it matter which payment is for which child?
Contact the child benefit office and ask them?0 -
Interestin question, I'll try have a look. Out of interest why would it matter?0

The elder child will be given the higher rate.
If you keep your money separate, why not agree to split the difference so that each child has the same amount.0
