How important is underfloor insulation?

Looking at the EPC for the house I just purchased it recommends underfloor insulation and that it would improve the energy efficiency by five points. House is currently 31 with a potential of 66.

Is this expensive, are there grants and is it worthwhile?

It isn't a faddy idea to prevent much of the 25% of heat loss via the floor, but if only viewing the house as a 7 year investment, as many do, then installing underfloor insulation won't result in adequate pay-back in monetary terms. Comfort levels should increase.

How difficult it is to install underfloor insulation depends on the construction of the existing ones. Obviously, problems arise if there's concrete there and one wants to stick a wodge of solid insulation in. Either the floor has to be dug out or the room loses height and door ways have to be altered. For that reason alone, many say "Pass!"

I've installed insulation in my new floors because the regs say I have to, but the old ones have stayed as they are, With a new boiler, cavity wall insulation, new doors and especially the tripled loft insulation (which was free) I notice one heck of a difference in fuel consumption and comfort.

Some people here will tell you EPCs are rubbish. Mine was accurate, and now I've made changes, I can feel the difference. I would have done what I did without the EPC, however, as the info around energy-saving is out there in shed-loads.
