Leaving tenancy early

Hi all, I'm new here so please bare with me!
I entered our tenancy agreement back in May and since have been deemed unfit for work via the doctor and I've lost my job due to it. I've got permission from the landlord through the estate agents to leave the tenancy early.
I knew they'd be some sort of fee to pay regarding leaving, but had no idea it would be nearly £500!! Apparently for readvertisement of the property. I paid this 30 hours ago and yet no advertisement of the property has been made, they're being very slow with getting another tenant in, I've already informed them of my situation and how I will not be able to pay another month at the end of august. Yet still sluggish.
I've then been informed that the office actually lost my tenancy agreement not long after we moved in!! So we have no signed contract and no idea when they'll be readvertiseing and finding a new tenant. I've now got to wait for viewings to take place, someone to go through referencing and etc...
Is there a way I could now move out and leave them to it? There's nothing signed anymore to say we have to pay the remainder of the months and the landlord and estate agents have been informed of me moving.
Thank you for any advice.

You need to get the terms of your 'Early Surrender' confirmed properly, in writing.
* exactly what charges do they expect you pay ?
* what date will your tenancy end?
It sounds as if you are being charged to re-advertise, and also expected to maintain the tenancy (and rent) until a new tenant is found and new tenancy created, but you do not sound too sure.
Check.
If so, you need to get on to the agent to ensure the advertising is kicked off - the LL /agent has little real incentive as they can continue to charge you rent, so you need to keep pushing them.
ps- what date does your fixed term end?0 -
I've got the letter for early surrender so that is all in writing and signed. I pestered the agency and they posted the advert this morning. So my pestering paid off there. Still angry it took nearly 3 days from receiving payment to advertise! I have a viewing Friday, but I would like to move out now. So can I move out letting the agents know I'll still be contactable about the flat and any news?0

What exactly does the letter say?
To be honest 3 day is not long. I know you want a new tenant found asap, but that is not unreasonable.
Of course you can move out. There is no law forcing you to stay there. Indeed, tenants frequently go on holiday! The issue is not where you live but the date the tenancy ends, which depends on...... the wording of the letter!
You can move out, but that does not end the tenancy or your liability for rent, gas, etc.0
