How far back can I claim please?

Hello
I had a loan with Ocean finance maybe 10-12 years ago.
The loan was paid and I don't have any account numbers. I emailed Ocean and they replied back to say Intelligent lending ltd purchased the Ocean finance brand in August 2012.
And Ocean finance and mortgage ltd ceased trading August 2016.
I spoke to fscs and they have said can not claim due to cut off goes back to 14.1.05.
Is that the case and if not how do I get any details re the loan account number etc if that's hey have
now ceasesd trading.
