First time buyer mortgage broker

Hello,
We're in the process of looking to move from London to Edinburgh in the next few months and looking to buy up there. Does anyone have any advice as to whether getting a mortgage broker for a move like this is a good idea? And should the broker be local to where we're planning on moving to. We're a bit worried about not being able to just pop in and sign something!
Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd always prefer to be able to meet a professional like this, whether mortgage advisor, solicitor etc) - so I'd choose one local to me.
However the conveyancing process in Scotland is different to England, so you need a solicitor who understands the Scottish system.
So far as I know, the mortgage process is the same though, so someone local to you in London should be fine.0 -
Firstly, if you weren't going to use a mortgage broker, how were you going to find a mortgage? It's probably better to use one to save you time, hassle, and probably money.
Secondly, a broker can be based anywhere - L&C (who are recommended on this site) are primarily phone based. Assuming your circumstances are relatively straightforward, you can provide most info over the phone/e-mail. When it comes to signing stuff, it's sent direct to the mortgage provider - rarely via the broker.
Where it is handy to pop in is with solicitors - for signing and for hassling them if they're being slow. However, as Scottish and English law differs for buying property, you might want to make sure anyone you use locally has experience of the Scottish system. But plenty of people manage with remote conveyancing, who are generally internet based.0
