Start Conveyancing on second property?

Hello – so, I’m buying a small flat – cash purchase, possible holiday let.
It is taking a lot longer than I thought to happen, 8 months now, with no end in sight, and I’ve got that feeling I’m being mucking around and it’s going to fall through.
In the meantime I’ve been looking at other properties and I’ve seen something that I like and I know it will be a quick purchase.
I only have enough cash to buy one property.
Question:
Can I start the process of buying the second property while still keeping my options open on the first one? As soon as the second purchase is well underway I will pull out of the first purchase – the one with no end in sight.
What’s the form here? I can see using the same solicitor as the first purchase may well be a no-go – or not?

The current solicitor will not do this. You could use a 2nd solicitor who knows nothing about the current purchase.

I don't know why the same solicitor wouldn't do this, after all they act for you.
We actually ended up in a similar situation and as it turned out they both went cold then a couple of months later both seemed to get moving and we ended up buying both! Talk to your solicitor, I have a very good relationship with mine so would have no issues discussing it with him, the fee will go up of course but he is there to act on your instructions.
Of course, whether you should do this is another question, but that is up to you!0 -
I also don't think the solicitor ought to have a problem if you're upfront about it, they don't have a professional obligation to tell other parties what you're up to. Obviously they'll expect a fee to reflect that they're doing one and a bit transactions.0

Why would a solicitor turn down work? You're not asking them to do anything unethical.0
