Couples ESA and sick notes help

Hi all! Ok so me and my partner are moving in together on Friday eeeeek! We are both on esa (he CB me IB) so now we are making a joint claim. The woman at the council house office said they may make us claim universal credit which would be bad news as you don't get any money for 6 weeks and they don't back pay etc.... when I rung th JC about a joint claim there was no mention of UC they just said they would send forms out so I could add him to my ESA and that he would still be entitled to his CB ESA too?
What I want to know is when he is put onto my claim will I have to start sending sick notes on to th JC again? I've been on esa for 8+ years and don't remember the last time o sent one in! Also will it be back to assessment phase or will things just be the same other than the change in money?
Thanks!

You won't go back to assessment rate so no fit notes required. Your money will be adjusted to take account of the income from his CB ESA.

Yes his ESA C will be unaffected by the move.

But when your ESA3 is recieved back at the ESA office they may send it to Universal Credit so your claim wil become UC. I doubt that sick notes will be required. How this will affect Housing Benefit backdated to the date you moved in together you would have to ask the UC helpline about that.

Oh gosh I hope it isn't a UC claim as I'm told you go 6 weeks without money and they don't back pay! This was mentioned at the council place but when I called the JC up nothing was mentioned they just said he would be added to my ESA and that they would send me a form out to fill in.
  • 42 days is the length of the Universal Credit assessment period which is a ridiculously long delay that is causing stress to an untold number of people. They do get the back pay, though.
