BArclaycard adjusting payments

Hello All,

Previous member but can't remember my old account name - thanks for all the help before.

A friend of mine reclaimed PPI with Barclaycard in 2015 - and just received a letter and a quite big cheque again, as they said they had reviewed how they were calculating interest payments and changed the formulas, and realised he'd been underpaid.

Mine was claimed back about a year or 2 earlier - should i be expecting the same, or is it worth a nudge to them?

Many thanks,

Emma.

  • thank you. Just wondered what the basis was - as if they were doing them incorrectly at that time, wouldn't they have all been incorrect?

You said you received redress two years earlier than your friend, so your complaint was not "at that time".

    Anyone affected is contacted automatically.

Of course, not every complaint was wrongly calculated or everyone would indeed be getting a further refund.
  • sorry - I meant if they were using an incorrect formula, wouldn't they have been using that to the point where it was corrected. Else my logic doesn't compute why some would be correct and some not - just trying to understand what the original issue was.

Ask your friend what the Bank wrote in their letter if you want such details. There have been numerous such incidents over the years. Some were the fault of Banks outsourcing complaints to outside companies. Some errors have been identified by the regulator and have led to fines.

Only your friend can tell you exactly how his personal complaint was mis-handled, but it's unlikely you will have been affected given the timescales you mention between yours and his.

Barclays have been trawling back through non-computerised records and bringing them onto their systems. Where the find new information that can change decisions or the amount of redress, they automatically contact those involved.

In some cases, the FCA told the banks to review certain types of rejections or redress methods and verify the right amounts were paid. If not, then the extra amount should be refunded.
