Wouldn't it be better for her to contact BT and activate the line with them before sky is involved?

It's difficult to say without knowing what services she wants - I doubt that BT is universally cheaper than Sky, so you'd need to compare the packages. On the other hand, if BT can definitely install faster than Sky then she may prefer to pay a premium to get service sooner.

With all the newbuilds going up, it must be a nightmare trying to keep databases up to date.

Surely there is a money-making oppurtunity here for the Govt?.
Create and maintain a national address database, then charge companies an annual fee of say, £300 per year, to access it.

The whole system will always be the most up-to-date and with access charges, will pay for itself.

As long as she is on the Royal Mail site she should be able to get sky TV within a month or so of the address being registered. Sky BB or Fiber is another matter. With a new address she will likely be on a Bronze datebase list as she has never had a phoneline before. Sky will flat out refuse to install a line for her as they have to manually put the order through and override their systems. I had this issue and BT was the only company willing to put the order through from the Bronze list and it still took 6 weeks to get the line and fiber. 3 months in and I'm still not on google maps :(

She had a phoneline and broadband before, at her old address. I would have thought they would take that in consideration before putting her on a bronze database.
She just want broadband, she's doing everything online, sky tv is more for the kids and her partner, if it was for her she wouldn't even have a tv.
