Newbuilt address problem.

A friend of mine has moved into a newbuilt council house, but she has problems with her address, she is trying to get sky broadband installed, they supposed to have come yesterday but she was told her address doesn't show on their system and they can't come and install broadband. They say their system is updating every months on the 24th where the newbuilt shows up, and to wait one more month to see if her address shows up then. She tried a few times to order goods from shops online with her mobile network, and could not secure the transaction because the address didn't show up on the shop system, and when she enters the address manually not all shops accept her address and she can't buy anything much.
She has gone to the post office and was told that her address was definitively registered and in their system.
How long will it take for that address problem to be solved, should she do something else?
She is not even sure if her bt line is connected, shouldn't she start by checking on this first, as you need a bt line to have broadband?

It does take a few weeks for new addresses to show on data bases. I would also check the post code she is using is the one the post office uses. When we moved here, there was confusion regarding which was the correct post code.0

Not sure where you're based but in Scotland each council has someone responsible for maintaining the database of addresses. Every time a new street is built it needs to be named, numbered and added to the database. This is the OFFICIAL address list despite what Royal Mail employees may tell you. The Council provide this list to third parties but it may take a few weeks to filter through. In Scotland each council updates a master database that covers the whole country and I'd imagine that's the same in England and Wales.
I'd suggest seeing if you can get the address details for the Corporate Address Gazetteer at your council.0 -
She is based in london, and she has had problems with her postcode, but that one has been solved. She is waiting for her council tax too, she called them but she is still waiting for them to call her back.
As I can see, newbuilt are bad news. She can't do any decorating or change anything for a year, and soon they will have to dig out her little garden because the properties at the back have some flooding, and they think it's coming from her property. Her neighbours are in a similar newbuilt property, and has had flooding inside the house, and they are trying to get broadband too but are finding it difficult.
The only positive is that she has solar panels, so normally she should pay less electricity, but she can't use her attic for storage because of that.0 -
Once it's on the Royal Mail system it can take some time for it to appear on other supplier databases as and when they update them. Our postcode still doesn't show up on some systems even two years later. Sky may take a few months. I think we had to wait six months to a year before we showed up on most of the services that we used. It's just something that has to be put up with.
Not decorating or changing anything for a year is for her own benefit - it means that if any repairs are needed the decoration is out back as it was, this is completely normal and again something you put up with, after all, you have a shiny brand new home.0 -
Sky should contact openreach who will come and connect the phone line. If she doesn't know if they've been yet id say its pretty likely they haven't. (They're pretty poor, took us six months to get the phone line). Whats probably happening is Sky aren't seeing her address as valid for broadband because openreach haven't connected yet. Get her to ring sky, check this, and get them on at openreach.0

Apparently she tried the line with a phone, and there is nothing there. Wouldn't it be better for her to contact BT and activate the line with them before sky is involved? Sky won't do anything before 24 august at the earliest, as they update their system every 24th of each month, that is in the hope that my friend's address will show up then.
She i forbidden to go in the loft, they locked the door and didn't give her a key, which I find a bit hazardous, if anything happen in there they can't go in.0 -
So your friend has been given a brand new Council house in London and the only positive is that it's got solar panels!!! Words fail me :mad:0

Another positive is that she is keeping her secure tenancy, having been a council tenant for over 25 years in another council property:D0
