Child Benefit

Hello
I think the answer is probably obvious to this but I have to ask for my own peace of mind.
My wife has 2 children from her previous marriage for who she claims child benefit. They both live with us. I am about to start earning more than the £50k threshold and my question is do I have to report this fact to HMRC in order to repay the tax even though the children are not mine.

Yes. You are part of a couple with their mother.
You could look at deductions such as pension contributions that would lower your income.

Thank you both. It was as I thought. It makes no difference that I am not the kids natural father.
I do make pension contributions which will mitigate it somewhat.0
