Money Savers Arms

Last ooorders!… We’re sorry but for now, due to resources, we need to close the Money Savers Arms including Discussion Time.

It’s not easy to write this. We love the forum, but we also have a job to do to protect it, our users and MoneySavingExpert, and at the moment, with all our resources focused on Coronavirus information, and all the team at home, we don’t feel we have the resources to do a good enough job.

For four months, we’ve been struggling to cope with the huge volumes of messages we’ve been getting from Forumites – many of whom are in desperate and dire straits with their finances. The team have been working all hours to try and keep on top of it. At first we thought it’d be a short sharp spike, but it isn’t, it’s continuing, so we have had some difficult choices to make about prioritisation.

Unfortunately in, and likely because of, these stressful times, the Forum team have also been receiving an increasing number of complaints about posts made on the Money Savers Arms and Discussion Time. The team have done what they can to try and walk the tightrope of balancing all the various interests, but for now we need to draw a line under this and temporarily close this Board, so we can keep the key, MoneySaving boards – where people are supporting each other through this crisis - running smoothly.

We know this board is important to you, but as the MSE stance has been forbearance throughout this crisis, now we ask that of you. We’re sorry. Of course you can post on other boards, but we’d ask you to stick to the subjects of those boards, and not use them as a surrogate Money Savers Arms or Discussion Time. And as always please be kind and friendly to each other, especially any newbies.

Thanks
MSE Forum Team

I was hardly ever using mine so I let it go. I always paid it off straight away anyway.

I used to have 2 credit cards, one paid cashback but there was a monthly fee, the other gave me vouchers off my shopping. The cash back one started to cost me money when I stopped using as much petrol so I got rid.

I still have the other one as it's fee-less and I put everything on it then pay it off in full once a month.

Am I the only one fed up with hearing about the bl***y royal wedding and seeing Meghan Markle beaming her actor's smile?

I don't have anything nearly as bad as Crohns but I also get "episodes" and yes, they do make you ratty :(

Mine is quite mild compared to some, it was found early, even though I complain enough about how long it took to give it a name.
I no longer get embarassed about it but I do sometimes find it impossible to get home quick enough

This is the problem with the higher credit limits. Some people run up big bills then get hit with all the interest, which is how the credit card companies make their dosh. They don't like people like me who clear the balance every month and incur no charges.

I'm the same, the limit could be a million for all I care, I only use my cards when I need them for specific purchaces and always clear the balance.

The days of running up bills that I can't pay are long behind me.

It may be just me but as I never watch the TV news, I miss all that gunk.

    Not me. :)

I quite like hearing about good news for a change.
It's a welcome relief from all the latest debacles at Westminster etc.

I can't understand why people would mind. :A

I applied for a balance transfer credit card (I only need to transfer £600!) and the limit they gave me - straight away - was £5,100!!

I'll be honest - I was a little shocked" I thought credit card limits were supposed to start very low!

I did have the foresight to make them ask me before increasing my limit....

I guess it's irritating because that's a lot of credit to give someone straight away!

I have 3 credit cards all with credit limits in excess of £12k

    Exactly!

I won't be using it unless it's for things that I can claim money back if there are issues - such as flights etc. I learned that from my Monarch debacle!

I use mine like a debit card or cheque book.
Because I have bits of money going into my account at different times in the month, and direct debits coming out at all odds times, it's hard to keep track of my exact balance on any given day, so using the c/card gives me a bit of grace,

Then I pay it all off when the bill comes in.

My bank kept trying to persuade me to have one of those fee-paying accounts, and even one where you get cashback for utility standing orders etc., but when I sat down and worked out what was involved, it simply wasn't worth it for me, as I wouldn't have used the freebies that came with it, and you'd have to claim the cashback all the time, and I just knew I'd forget to.

As I said to them, nobody gives you anything for nothing!

People dont like Royalty for whatever reason, for me its how we are supposed to basically worship them just because we are British when the coverage can be on many other more worthy causes.
