Is it difficult to set up direct payments with HMRC?

Hi folks,

We have been awarded direct payments to help out child and understand there is a process where we would be classed as employers and have to set up a gateway account with HMRC.

Just wondering if the gateway account for child tax credits would do, probably not?

Would be grateful if anyone who has gone through doing this would give us some advice on what needs to be done.
Many thanks.

No it needs to be a separate account as the employer.

See this website https://www.disabilitytaxguide.org.uk which guides you through it.

It answers your question here https://disabilitytaxguide.org.uk/Setting-things-up/registering-as-an-employer/#register

i receive direct payments and use a payroll service.
they do everything.... they set up an account, sort out tax and NI and send all the relevant info to HMRC.
it takes a lot of stress out of the situation

Do you have to pay Nannytone? I get DP as well but no additional amount from the LA to pay for a payroll service because my payment is capped so I do it myself. It's actually quite straightforward once you get used to it, now only takes me about 30 mins one a month.

its £12 per pay slip per month.
i budget my PA's wage to take into account all the 'extras' like payroll and insurance

i use paypacket, but know some charities ( in my area DCIL.... derbyshire coalition for inclusive living) offer a payroll service for people that receive direct p`aments. they charge but it is minimal
