Ebay de-registered me, help please?

I've been buying and selling on ebay since 2001 and had no problems 99.8% feedback (over 2000). Anyway, I decided to list some items which were personal musical type items. I had a link to my website on the about me page. Suddenly I got an email from paypal telling me my account had been restricted. No idea why, but they wanted some ID, so I sent them passport etc. Then they questioned a transaction on my paypal account which was actually a sale through my website. I sent them all details regarding the item, proof of postage, buyers details and they were happy. Unrestricted my account and all was good.

The next day I had multiple emails from ebay cancelling all of my listings, then an email telling me I am no longer a registered user. No explaination and no details of how to sort the problem. I emailed them, no reply, and of course there is no phone number to call.

After a couple of weeks of ignored emails I got a reply saying they needed all sorts of ID (no problem) and details of my supplier. I sent them ID and the details of the people who supply the majority of my items. However they still refused to re-register my account because there were other items sold which I hadn't supplied details for. These other items were personal household stuff I'd cleared out and sold. Stuff like, DVDs, a couple of dresses, a bass amp which was my partners. They said they wanted either receipts or details of who supplied me with every item I have ever sold and they won't register me again until I do. I argued that this is totally unreasonable, they have had every bit of ID I can give them and the receipts for the business type things we sell (which is the vast majority of our items). We're at stalemate.

I actually think they have got the hump because I was listing the same items on ebay as are sold on our website and I think they believe some traffic is going through ebay to the site. People buy direct and I don't pay ebay fees. Maybe this does happen but usually the items for sale on the site are at a slightly higher price. I don't put the website on the actual auction, only in the about me. I think it helps people to see that a company is valid when spending large-ish sums of money, so being able to see the website and who we are is a good thing?

Has anyone else had this kind of a problem, and did you find anyway to get ebay to listen or at least explain what really is the problem. All I seem to get now is the same email repeating that they need documentation for all items sold during my registration.

Bearing in mind that eBay own PayPal, I suspect that they looked at % sold through your website v. % sold through eBay; they must think that your website link is soliciting 'off eBay sales'.

Personally, I think eBay hold all the Aces in every situation and do exactly what they want.

Are you a Power Seller, have you spken to them on the phone, or is it all e-mail?
I only exist in my own mind - if you can see, hear or read me, you are a product of my imagination.

I would just keep faxing them the Receipts you do have & they'll soon lift the block on your account.

It took us 9 attempts a couple of years ago when I sold some personal used items which had been sat in the loft for years & they wanted receipts for everything, new & old

I can understand asking for receipts for Brand New Items (to prove you haven't been shoplifting) but even a business is only required to keep receipts for 5 yrs

Given the way you have been treated, and the possible data protection problems, I'd stop using paypal as a card gateway, try worldpay or nochex.

Has the world gone so mad that you need to prove that anything you want to sell hasn't been stolen, if the police were to come round to my (or I suspect most other peoples) house and remove everything I didn't have a receipt for (to prove I hadn't nicked it) my house would be very empty.
