So work is being carried out and the chimney breast is being prepared to be blocked up. An air brick is going to be placed in and a vent placed on the wall infront to provide an airflow up the chimney.

After having a good search around on different vents i came across a couple of suggestions where piping is used (such as 32mm waste pipe) into the chimney and ran to the floor void /cellar to provide air flow.

What are people's thoughts on this? In my set up it is doable into the cellar which has good airflow already and it would allow me to not have an ugly vent on the front.
Things that are free in life are great, well most of the time
