Car Insurance Admin Fee

My renewal with e-sure in March was ridiculously high so I shopped around and found a £200 saving with Halifax. I advised e-sure in plenty of time that I did not want to renew and this was confirmed and accepted via e-mail.
Now three weeks later they are claiming an admin charge of £25.00 for cancellation! Do I have to pay this? Did the bureaucrats ever make any changes based on Martin's 10 point renewal suggestions five years ago. I am appalled at this as I've never had it before and I always shop around so have changed companies often in the past.

If you did not renew then there would not be a fee to pay. If you cancelled during the policy term then there would normally be an admin charge to pay.I am appalled at this as I've never had it before and I always shop around so have changed companies often in the past.
admin charges are common and actually quite a fair thing to have. However, they should not be charged incorrectly. They key thing here is that you told them you didnt want to renew. Hopefully you didnt tell them you wanted to cancel.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Just complain in writing with your proof that you didn't want to renew and bug them on social media if they don't provide a proper response (you generally have to give them 8 weeks to respond). If you said you wanted to cancel it's a bit different to saying you didn't want to renew so check the wording carefully
Send the letter and get proof of postage (free from a PO) not signed for. Mark the letter as Complaint clearly.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
