Getting verified and adding/deleting bank accounts

Hi folks - hope you can help.

Always paid for things I've bought (don't sell) on ebay with my Credit Card via PayPal. I've just gone to pay for a purchase and PayPal inform me that I've reached a limit and I can't pay anymore until my account becomes verified - to do this I need to link my bank account.

Now to be honest I'm not happy doing this at all (in case of fraud) so I'm in the process of setting up a Smile Account with Natwest. Problem is the seller will need paying and I don't want to delay things.

So the question is - if I link my current account now, can I then subsequently go in and totally remove it and link the Smile account or will it always have to be linked to my current account?

Anyone know?

Cheers,

Bubba

You can change it afterwards. PayPal have to accommodate people who change their current account. For the PayPal Personal account that I use only for buying, I added a bank account to get it verified. I then removed the account details. It has no linked bank account at all. That was over two years ago, and it’s remained verified ever since.

Even if you use your main current account, getting verified takes time. Unless something has changed since I did it, you have to wait while PayPal send two small amounts to your bank account. You then have to tell PayPal what the two amounts are that you’ve received. This is to prove you have access to the bank account whose details you give. The process takes days. I’m sure there’ll be people along later to tell you how annoyed they’ve been when a buyer has told them, “Can you please wait? I need to get my PayPal account verified.” :)

    Oh bum!

I really, really hate messing people around.

Thanks very much for the info Alfie, much appreciated.

Something's wrong with that sentence... can't quite put my finger on it ;)

  • Just to confirm Alfie's post.

I helped OH set up PP account earlier (she's buying wedding dress from China), and the same process still applies. Two small amounts to your account, and when you confirm the amounts to PP, you're verified. They currently quote 2-3 days.

  • LOL, I'm looking at your post and asking myself "What on earth is she on about?"

Penny drops - It's a Step account with Nat West !!!!

    It's late you know (that's my excuse :o )

    Night, Night.

(PS I mucked up the application anyway by constant use of the back/forward browser buttons so it won't let me apply on-line any more)

Does the seller offer any other online payment services such as Nochex to pay with your Credit Card?

Also, if you want the bank account process to be hurried along, pop into your local Natwest Bank & they'll setup a Step Account within a few minutes & give you the account number there & then

I set up my PP account two weeks ago. It said 2-5 days for the 'two small amounts' to be credited to my bank account.
In reality it took from one Monday to the following Monday. I called PP to see if there was a problem and was told that it generally takes 5 working days

Smile are the online arm of The Co-operative Bank. And their insurance arm is called CIS. And they have thousands of convenience stores under various names.

    A strange company!
