Childrens Saving Account - Access Question
Comments
-
It was great for me - I remember my passbook very fondly - actually I still have it, going back to the day I was born.
I doubt your parents wanted online access to it or that you were going into the branch from the day you were born....
Your parents would have popped into the branch with cash while you were too young to manage the account and after that you would have gone in yourself with your pocket money, I expect.
If you type "child account on line access" into Google you may something as close as possible to what you require.0 -

Given that the account was opened in 1979, I suspect that would be correct!
I did try to google for it, but its really unclear.0 -

Good point.
We have
Yorkshire Bank
Natwest
HSBC
Lloyds
Halifax - ruled out already
Post Office (does that count?)
And a little out of the way, but still possible if all else fails
Barclays
TSB0 -
Thanks. The Natwest one looks very good for what we need.0 -
Grrr. Natwest only allows one parent to control the account.
Why is this even a thing? Took my daughter to register for a nursery last week, and the box for our details said "Parent Name". Not "Parents Names". Grrrrr0 -
Great question OP. I make a monthly trek to halifax to check my childrens saving accounts balances, statements and move money around. I may open a barclays a/c now (as interest rate is something i keep an eye on for these accounts).
The one parent thing wouldnt be too much of an issue with online banking providing you both new the passwords for online banking....
On an aside (as i know its too late now) halifax complaints department are awesome. On the three occasions i have had awful customer experiences, they have always happily compensated me.0 -
Santander offer a mini 123 account that you can hold in trust that has online access.

We use the 123 mini, and as we have a santander acc ourselves my children's accounts appear on my online banking, if we were to withdraw it would need to be in branch, but I suppose I could quick transfer the amount needed to my account and withdraw with my card.0

My children have an account with Co-op - this can be accessed online and operated as a normal online bank account
Their other accounts are with Halifax as they give one of the best rates and at age 7 they can have a cashcard0
