Dealer selling car involved in incident but claiming clean history Really confused.

Reserved Volvo XC60 through Selekt dealer scheme which I understand comes with all background checks and warranties for additional peace of mind.Really confused.

I paid £100 deposit on credit card to reserve the car.

I called insurance company to get a quote for this car. The agent dropped a bombshell and asked me whether I was involved in 15k claim made within this vehicle registered in the claim.

The dealer said, car is absolutely clean and checked under Selekt programme. So not Insurance write off.

Surely for claim of 15k to be made against driver or by driver In this car, the car would have had been in a significant incident or there can be other reasons.

What do I do guys. I am getting really nervous about the situation. It is hard earned 17.5k we are spending. We have a baby due in 3 months time, can do without this hassle.

The vehicle is sold under Volvo Selekt scheme.

Do they give you a guarantee the car has never been damaged?

Usually checks you diy find out about write offs but not prangs that are repaired. They aren't expensive so you might do your own. Then take it from there

Surely the vehicle could have been the cause of a 15K claim whilst sustaining little if any damage - pulling out into the path of an overtaking motorcyclist might not cause any damage to the car, but result in a fault claim for tens of thousands...
  • They are saying the car has never been insurance write-off, what they are not confirming is that the car has never been involved in an accident.

As I am paying premium but buying through Selekt programme, I understand they would have undertaken comprehensive vehicle check, so if there was any repairs done on the car, they should have informed me.

Is there anyway I can find out details of the claim, off-course not details of person, but what exactly was the claim.

Either ways, having discovered this from insurer not dealer, is leading me to lose trust. The vehicle was priced lower than other similar aged cars. I did ask myself the question, whether this was too good to be true.

Might be repairs have been done upto high standards and all ok now, but I am worried on what else the dealer is hiding.

Your insurer looks prepared to divulge information about it's claim history to you so see if they will tell you more.

If it's not been a write off then there won't be any database that shows repairs. The dealer cannot know

As others have said it may not have had massive repairs but the payout may have been to a third party and include injury compensation/ loss of profits or earnings etc
  • Apart from asking dealer to confirm if any repair works been carried, and if yes, then, has it been carried to highest standards.

Surely technicians at dealers would be able to thoroughly examine and confirm the above.

In remote situation, if I walk away, and dealer refuses to pay deposit back. Can I claim it back from credit card company.

You need to prove misrepresentation/ breach of contract (assuming you mean claim under s75)
