Do you say you won on here if your real name is made public?

I am a private person with no social media accounts - they are just not for me - I love this forum as I can be anonymous.

I have won a couple of competitions in the past that I haven't mentioned on here as my real name has been listed on the companies' websites. I tend to be good at winning comps that involve a bit of effort rather than luck and which often involve the winner's names being mentioned along with the poem, photo or whatever the entry was.

I feel bad as it also means I don't thank the person that posted the comp too so a BIG THANK YOU to all those who do post them.

Just wondering if there is anyone else out there who prefers the anonymity and doesn't mention some wins on here?

I don't mention all wins here, although I feel many people may have figured out who I am.
Although I tend to say thank you to the company with a photo on social media, when I can.

You can always thank someone with the prize mentioned but not post which competition it has come from, as many competitions give away similar prizes, especially Gleam and Rafflecopters, but of course you don't have to announce it to the world.
I'm sure if you really wanted to thank the original poster then they would appreciate a private message if preferred.

Congratulations on any wins and thanks for entering competitions that have been posted, it makes it worth while to those who do post competitions. :)
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.

Thanks Ms Dee - I think I will do a private message to the person who posted my most recent win which was worth £200!

(My name, a bit about me and my (effort) entry is being made public for this one on the companies website and social media)

    Wow, that is amazing! :j
Huge congratulations on the win! :T
    Enjoy!

Although please bare in mind that most competitions will disclose your name in someway, sometimes people have to send off to reveal winners names, other times it is on social media, always worth a quick read through the terms and conditions if you are concerned.
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.

I used to be private, but I'm all over the bloody internet now so have stopped worrying about it. Nothing there to inciminate me lol - and I've not won millions, so am very unlikely to have people camped outside my doorstep ;)

Would also just PM if it was something I wanted to stay anonymous over.

    Jx

One of the things the I won posts are good for is morale. When compers have a dry patch or don't ever think they will win a coveted prize, it's really great to see a steady stream of other coppers who have won something and hope is then renewed for the day !

I think it's more about when your real name is listed as the winner on the competition's page somewhere - if they then put it on the I Won page, they would easily be identified :)

THIS! ... I often go through phases of "Does anyone ever win these" ... and then a post pops up of someone winning one.

You could just say "Thanks Laks, I won from one of your posts" and not actually mention anything else (I say Laks 'cause 90% of the time that's what they are :rotfl:) ... I don't think you have to necessarily say what comp was or even what the prize was, it helps 'cause it resolves the "Does anyone ever win these" question, but it's your call.

If you're not on any social media channels then I don't really see a problem with people knowing your real name, it's not like they can search for you on Facebook to see what your up to today ... all they'll know is it's "Joe Bloggs from Barnsley" and there's probably a couple of people with the same name in Barnsley. And to be honest, I don't think anyone really cares what your real name is or where you're from (I don't mean that in a harsh way, I just wouldn't imagine it's something people would be interested in)
  • booklover 500 - you do whatever you are most comfortable with, thats absolutely upto you hun. If you want to post your wins fine - if not - then thats fine too. :D

Thousands enter comps from here daily that dont even log in - or press the the thanks button, which I think is really rude. When you look at a comp post it may have 2000 views - then say 100 thanks - that really gets my goat.

I must admit like others though i do like reading the I won posts - just for a bit of motivation :o or maybe I'm just nosy :p
