They are both usually optional additions and not included in a standard policy.

See if you can get a better understanding by discussing this face to face with a local broker (not Swinton)

Are you saying that you do not have that additional option (it is not in a standard policy) and advise against having it?

by the way, I just contact Prudential and did a haggle. He said he was sympathetic to my mum being a long loyal coustomer and not have claimed in years, and so first gave a cheaper quote of £127:00. I haggled some more and his final quote is £117.70 which is approx £100 cheaper than original premium if £212.30. What do you think?

I have said I will think about it.

Not saying that, just that you need to be aware that most policies don't include those covers as standard (ie not normally included in the cost of a normal home insurance policy)

You need to get current comparative prices to know whether or not that £117 is a good deal. (Certainly looks like they were taking her for a ride as a "reward" for her loyalty till you stepped in!)

You've saved your mum £100 and not had to compromise cover in any way or take any chances moving insurer and falling foul of your lack of knowledge.

    What do you think?
