Job losses over eBay 'addiction'

Union officials have blamed bosses for "putting temptation in their way" - by allowing access to the internet.

  • Muppets! Why is that people in local government or other jobs that get paid for by us the taxpayers, can think they can spend their work time skiving! No sympathy at all for these people and I hope the employer seeks to reclaim wages for them for all the hours they spent skiving that they were paid for!

  • If I was paying someone to work for me I'd be pretty peed off if I (or in this case we, the taxpayer) was paying for them to spend their time on eBay and Facebook for 2 hours a day - that is what lunchtimes are for!! All they are doing is proving that the work can be done without them being there.
  • the funny thing is the union worker said (due to some emplyees only spending 30 mins wasting time on net each day overa 6 month period) that it didnt warrant dismissal..

ok so putting aside the 2 hours a day... lets take the conservative 30 mins per day estimate.... 5 days a week 6 months...

    that comes to approximately 28 weeks = 28 x 5 days a week = 140 days

    140 days x 30 mins = 70 hours....

so overall the fact theyve been paid 70 hours (almost £400 at minimum wage which lets face it.. they arent on, they get paid more)

as far as i see it if some1 has effectively stolen £400 they can get stuffed n id sack them.

'putting temptation in their way' HAHAHAH . Yeah ill go out n steal a ferrari n try that excuse with the police.
  • It's easy to bar these sites so why didn't their IT section do this?

Because they try to treat us like grown ups!! Every member of the workforce with access to a computer should be aware of the company's internet policy - ours states that we are allowed to look at such sites - 'out of core hours' so that would be before or after work or in a lunch break NOT in work time.
Some people don't have a computer at home so find this more flexible approach very welcome ;)
People who abuse it are basically stealing
;) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!
  • My husband works in local govt. and he has absolutely no perks - hae can't access any than official websites during core time - he can't make private phone calls - nothing.
  • i love how the attitude from the union and people invovled was that they more or less didnt know it was wrong... pffff....sure
