We are considering buying a LCD tv.
That in itself isn't an issue, but what we're thinking about is, should we have it on a unit or wall mounted.
Either way, we will require a unit of some sort to accommodate the videa/freeview/dvd. BUT, if it is wall mounted, we don't fancy 5/6 cables hanging down to connect to the various items below. Whenever you see wall mounted TV's on the TV be it in a play/advert, where are the cables?. You're not telling me they have the plaster chipped out and bury them beneath.

If it's on a wall then they need to be hidden somehow - conduit in the wall and plastered over or maybe colour coordinated trunking running down wall - if you have the right sort of wall (like in showrooms) you can drop the cables down the cavity....Neil0

What's in the room behind the wall? Rather than bury the whole length of the cable in the wall, you could just poke two small holes in the wall: one behind the TV (so you can't see it) and one behind the VCR (again, so you can't see it).
You could then plug the cable into the TV, thread it through into the next room, down the wall, then back through the lower hole in the wall and into the VCR.
Obviously you still have the cable in the next room to hide, but this may be easier if you have kitchen cupboards to hide it in, or an under-the-stairs cupboard, or just a kids' playroom where you don't mind running some plastic conduit down the wall...
Hope this helps...0 -

But then you have the problem of wall mounting a (probably quite large) LCD TV on a cavity wall ...The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

what was wrong with ya old telly? I want a LCD one, but the misses wont let me until the old one is broken. I therefore dont think you should get one either. As you can see - I am very bitter.

Would be a terrible shame if you had an accident with a couple of pints of water

Maybe we shouldn't get one then. Ours is only a few years old, in perfect working order but it is SO big. We want to move the furniture round but the size prohibits this. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I havent got one of these, but my mate has. He has one box which all his appliances plug into, video/play station/freeview etc, think of it as an amp for video. Then just one lead runs to his flat screen telly.
His telly came with this, so I guess most do, although that is just a guess.0 -
