in Credit cards
I understand there are cards you can apply for, with a poor credit history. Lets say i have a satisfied default that is coming up 4 years now.
Since the default, all my other accounts have been paid on time. Is a default on my credit file always going to have a negative impact if i were to apply for a mainstream card.

It will always have a negative impact. Whether it will stop you getting a card will vary though.0

I belive creation will give cards to people with less than perfect credit history, but the rate will be higher due to the risk. They have soft checks available before you apply.0

I have 3 defaults on my account - 2 are due to go off in April and the other one still has another 3 years to go.
This year I applied for an Aqua card and a Tesco Foundation card - got both and both have had increase in limits.
Then my bank, Halifax, offered me a balance transfer card (have only been with them 5 months and only just had my pay transferred across to them this month).0 -
I got a Tesco foundation card this week, 27% APR, £500 limit with 4 defaults on my file, all paid off though and 4 years old. Thats about as main stream is i think i will get.
See what MSE Money Club tool comes back with, thats what i did, and its free.0 -
In a similar position. defaults on file 4 years old. Now just got mobile phone accounts all up to date and mortgage. Applied for a marbles card last week and got accepted. APR is 29% but plan on paying in full each month and got a credit limit of £1200. Am planning on keeping this for a couple of years and then when defaults dropped off, applying for a mainstream one.0

I have a lot of defaults (I'm not sure exactly how many because I've had a lot of accounts wrote off) but I have literally minutes ago been approved for an Aqua card. I've just closed a catalogue account that had a £500 limit- account was open 5 months with a limit increase each month, paid off in full and closed. My bank, Barclays, also gave me a full current account although it seems they haven't searched me, I've had my basic account for fifteen years. I also have a Cashplus credit card (not the prepaid one) with a £100 limit. I owe £75 on this currently but it's not showing on my credit file as yet.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

What did you do to get full? Im not 100% sure, but i think i might have a basic account not full with Barclays, how can i tell? My debit card is not contactless, but other peoples i know with Barclays are, and when i asked 2 years ago in the bank they said they would need to do some checks to get it.0 -

Depends on whether the balance is reducing and whether that is spotted by the lender you apply to.
Going back a few years I successfully applied to Vanquis, Aqua, Argos Storecard and JD Williams mail order account with two defaults on my credit history. Both defaults had been running for 3 years and had a reducing balance over that whole time.
Probably if the defaults have a static balance because you are not paying them off that's negative. If you are paying them off it's not exactly a positive but not necessarily a negative either.0 -

If you have a look on your online banking it will tell you what kind of account it is- if it says 'Basic Current Account' that's the basic one- if it says 'the Barclays Bank Account' it's a full account. I have contactless cards on both my basic and full accounts, they are issuing them on basic accounts now although I couldn't say for sure if everyone is getting them- I've had mine for just coming up to a year now. If it is a basic account you've got just tell them your card is damaged and you need a new one- that might trigger a contactless if they're issuing them routinely. I just applied online through internet banking- it accepted me immediately. The only thing that is different about my full account is that I can use Apple Pay which is why I wanted it however they said if I have my income paid into the new account they might look at an overdraft in the future so I've had my benefit payments switched into the new account.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -

Thank you for the advice. I applied for a creation card and was accepted online for their Everyday credit card at 12.90%. This a lot lower than my Aqua and capital one card. Bonus is they also tell you your credit limit too.I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.0
