PIP or Working Tax Credit?

A friend has recently been diagnosed with a condition that is considered a disability.

He has been told he may be entitled to PIP and Working Tax Credit.

He works 37 hours per week on a low income. He is a single person.

If he is entitled, which should he claim first if this is the case?

Is there anything else he could be entitled to?

Thank you

What is his income? You only say it's low.

From what you have said he meets the criteria for WTC but whether he gets anything will depend on his income.

Simply being diagnosed with an illness wouldn't entitle someone to PIP, does he have any care or mobility issues?

I think it's about £15k but I will ask and find out for sure.

    He get £15,205 per yer.

He has a neurological disorder condition that he has several co-morbids with. He can't move out of his mums as he simply wouldn't cope alone.

If awarded PIP he'll be entitled to WTC. His income is too high to claim WTC if he isn't entitled to the disability element.
  • £15,205 is too high to receive Working Tax Credits. The cut off for a single person is just over £13,000.

However if PIP is awarded he could claim for the Disability Element of WTC which if entitled he would receive about £40 a week Tax Credits.

That's odd. I've just spoken to him. He said that he was told the cap is £13k without a disability but not with.

Which is what we have said in the last two posts.

The threshold is £13,000 without a disability.

Entitlement to the disability element increases the threshold (how much depends on the rate of the daily living compnonet of PIP).

So, in summary, he has to be getting the PIP to be awarded the WTC?
