Do airport checkin counters, check the weight of Hand luggage? or pay no attention ?

(Asking for Delta airlines)

When in que at the airport for checking in your luggage,

and it is your turn, they take in your suitcase and check the weight of it, and give you their stickers to put on.

Then while you are at that point of weighing the luggage, do they usually weight the hand luggage that you are taking on board?

(I mean the big one, not handbags or laptop items)

or do not really pay attention to it? (even if it is behind the counter on your side)

previously they have not even pay attention to it at times.

I know they scan it later on through the machine, but I am asking about the point when they check in the weight.

What is your experience ? have they checked your weight of your hand luggage, at the counter where they check in your luggage?

?

there is no weight restriction on hand luggage (with the exception of some locations as stated in the link on your previous thread) They may well look at the size of it and, if looking too large may get you to place it in a sizer.

If you stick to the size limits there is nothing to be concerned about

Why a second thread asking the same thing when the question was answered in the first post?

Delta have never weighed my hand luggage but why would they as there is no weight restriction

You do have to be able to lift it into the overhead lockers unassisted... But they can't work that out from weighing it...

From both of the OPs posts this morning it sounds like they might be overweight for checked luggage and possibly have too much hand luggage.

It is going to be best to adhere to the weight and size restrictions put in place by the airline.

If you exceed either just be prepared to pay an additional surcharge or have your hand luggage taken and placed in the hold. It is down to you to determine risk.

If caught out all I would say is take it on the chin and accept the fee or what they gate agent tells you. Don't cause a scene and don't hold other passengers up.

Just this weekend at Gatwick on my Easyjet flight a man who very clearly had a larger than acceptable cabin bag stood at the gate area holding everyone up as he argued with the gate agent. Even after she took credit card payment for the bag to be placed into the hold he was belligerent and then refused to pick up the oversized bag and move it further. He acted like a young child and refused to move the bag out of the way of others who were accessing the gate lounge. The Easyjet agent was so calmed polite and would not rise to the level of this silly man. Even when other passengers commented that he was being a D**k he wouldn't move the bag. It was only when the Easyjet gate agent (calmly) said that unless he now complied that she would commence the process to off load him (and started to press keys on her keyboard) that he meekly did as he was told. Game over.

Delta have sizing frames so if your hand luggage is too big it may be gate checked , you probably wouldn't be charged for it unless it was ridiculously over but you'd have no access to anything in it until landing. There's no weight limit but you do need to be able to lift it up and into the overhead compartment yourself. If you can't they gate check or off load it . There are H&S rules to protect the cabin crew which means they won't lift ridiculous weights for you (rightly so )

(As someone who never checks baggage to the US for anything less than a week I find the OPs determination to travel with so much quite mindboggling)

OP have you considered a luggage jacket ? Might solve your problem without needing to break any rules.

Have you followed the link kindly provided by ferf1223 in your earlier thread?

    This is the relevant information:
    Carry-on Weight Restrictions

No maximum weight applies to carry-on baggage except in the below stations:
    • Singapore, Singapore - Changi International Airport (SIN) carry on should not exceed 15 lbs. (7kgs)
    • South Korea - Incheon International Airport (ICN) carry on should not exceed 22 lbs. (10kgs)
    • Beijing, China - Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) carry on should not exceed 22 lbs. (10kgs)
    • Shanghai, China - Pudong International Airport (PVG) carry on should not exceed 22lbs. (10kgs)
Why would an airline that doesn't have a cabin baggage weight limit bother to weigh hand luggage?

You do need to ensure that your comply with the sizing limit though.
