vodafone contract - get out?

Hi all
I'm currently paying £40 a month on a contract, I paid a sizable deposit toward my phone to keep the monthly cost lower, however my circumstances have just changed dramatically and my only income is now income support - I consider things like eating and laundry more important than a phone.
Is there a way out of the contract without paying the remaining 12 months on my contract - which i simply can't afford to do!
Not looking for judgments, just friendly helpful advice.
Cheers

Sell the phone, see if they will put you on a lower tariff. Probably won't bt worth a try. I think you would have to die to get out of the contract, even then u might have to fight it..0

Yes, I agree, if you signed up to a £40 a month contract a year ago, while also paying a significant deposit, your handset has to still be worth at least £250...... Sell it, but a cheap handset for circa£60 and put the proceeds towards your phone bills0

So, good news.... kind of.....
i called them and was told flatly, to buy out of the contract would cost me another £380. I told them that that wasn't an option, i'd be quite willing to go to court considering I'd made a reasonable offer to reduce my bill rather than buy out. Then i was told they could upgrade me, pay £220 for a 12 month sim only, oddly double the data and an all round better deal for £19 a month. Now having had dealings with vodafone before, i made certain to ask exactly when the end date of the new contract would be (i was on instant chat). The guy told me 25th Aug 2017. Lo and behold, when i get the email through with the new contract, its not due to start until 25th september. What the operative neglected to tell me - and i picked up on and exactly why i asked him to confirm, was that he failed to mention the 30 days notice charge. What he should of said was that the contract starts 25th Sept because you have to give 30 days notice, effectively i was mis-sold the new contract. So, as it turns out, the new plan is a very good deal, £19 a month, half of what i was paying... the best part, I can effectively walk away from the contract within 30 days due to the "network guarantee". God that feels good to get one up :-)0 -

I would be waiting for the bill to arrive and the old contract to still be running its course.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
