S7 edge - 02 haggling - what have you achieved?
Hi all
I have Checked the previous 2 months threads and couldn't see anything similar to my query. I apologise if this is in any way a duplicate etc.
My query is simple... what's the best deal you have haggled out of o2 for the galaxy S7 egde?
I ask as I'm in the process of haggling for this model myself and the replies I have gotten have been a little strange compared to previous haggling with them on my old contracts.
I was offered 37.50 pcm and 59.99 upfront for unlimited calls and texts and 3gb data. A pretty poor deal compared to some of the other deals atm. When pushed they were unwilling to improve on it
As normal I concluded the call and thanked them for their help. I did the math of the overall cost and compared across the board.... a good £150ish more expensive than Vodafone.
I called back and went through to 'disconnections' asking for my pac code and explained why. My pac code was immediately provided with no discussion or even acknowledging the better deal from a competitor.
This was strange to me. Usually at this point a discussion starts regarding pricing etc and I end up signing up again as the deal is usually competitive. At least this is my experience from previous calls.
What prices have you been offered and is this now common practice?
I look forward to hearing your success stories (hopefully) and thoughts on the disconnections process.
Thanks for reading!

Blame own-self for undertaking a "finance" on overpriced phone.
Common, sensible practice is to buy handset, you can afford right out and leave networks to do, what they are meant to do- provide service... that none of the big names any good anyway ... and you considering VodaFvc%s?
So the next time we'll have couple more threads, as in Help- I am with VodaFc% and cant get out... etc0 -
I blame myself for nothing.
Whether something is over priced is dependent on a persons viewpoint.
Common sensible practice is to manage finances and budget according to needs and desires. Why plough £500 into a phone when the price difference compared to a contract is in the region of £60? The interest i earn on that in my savings account counter acts the higher price anyway. I may as well keep my emergency funds for exactly that.
And hell no. Wouldnt go with vodafone if it was free. Theres a reason there is a sticky for it...0 -
It's not the fact you took finance its the fact you did not take 0 percent finance.
There are means available to purchasing the entire cost upfront on finance, the best example is 0% purchases credit card.
The minimum repayments will work out less than the 24 month contract period especially on a monthly basis. That 60 quid can be used for something or earn interest on it, it's up to you. Plus your original 500. You've then got the freedom to pick any sim and any tariff so you'll never overpay. If a tariff becomes uncompetitive you can ditch and switch.
It's also easier to sell the device at any time of your choosing. It is always overpriced if you can get the same product and save 60 quid. Also this is a Moneysaving forum. By that definition alone £500 is overpriced for a smart phone.
Plus the deal you was after was 150 quid more expensive than the next provider and that next provider has a poor reputation.
Atasas has a higher card in this round. He's right.0 -
The forum is money saving but that does not mean you buy the cheapest thing possible for everything.
I managed to obtain a deal matching said cheapest price which is cheaper than buying the handset outright and the equivalent sim only deal. That to me is money saving.
Yes im tied into a provider. Ive used the same one for 4 years with no problems. I dont have an issue with that. An added bonus to this is having the tech and repair support should i need it.
The purpose of the original thread was to establish whether o2 has effectively stopped haggling and moved to a fixed price structure and to find out what successes people have had. None of the above contributes in any way to the same.
As an fyi for anyone actually interested in the original purpose:
O2 appear to have adopted a fixed discount policy. Upgrading customers are given a £4 discount on monthly costs no matter how many times you ask or how hard you push (including obtaining your pac code). I have tested this across 3 people with the same response for each. These discounts are against the website prices.
Carphone warehouse stores are currently operating on a £30 discretion policy. I had a lengthy discussion with one of the store managers, lovely guy, and he advised this was the case.
Carphone warehouse phone sales team is another story. They have much more discretion and when given a good reason they provided substantial discounts.
Again after lengthy discussions with a lovely cpw operative she explained that the discounts are limited by a quota each day so calling early is often best to ensure the days allowance has not been used up.
Now that is money saving. Making money go further by haggling and obtaining a better deal for what YOU want.
One very happy chappy that has saved money even against the equivalent sim only solution.
I am happy for mods to lock, close or delete this thread if you see fit. Its just going to turn into a keyboard war which im retiring from early.
Have fun.
I remember why i stopped posting on this forum now lol.0 -
Not the cheapest thing possible for everything. The best and most sensible deal for everything.0
