the point of getting SSD is making it faster.
Get 120GB or 250GB SSD and use it as boot drive. Your existing 500GB use it as storage of data.

I would possibly upgrade to a decent PSU as well

if you're putting a discrete gfx card (i.e. gtx750Ti) then at least check the psu that comes in the buld is up to the job, if not - replace it...

use a ssd drive to keep your PROGRAMMES on , with your usage , a 120g will suffice , and either a good fast secondary drive <phototo-films-music> (western digital black?) either 500g or 1t

the cheaper type of SSD is very cheap now. You can get 250GB for less than £100.

    E.g. Samsung evo 250GB is £65.

I would recommend 250GB which is sufficient for programmes for most people. I fitted it into my nephews computer and it's the only drive they have and have no issues with running out of data.

The thing abou disabling swap file, caching etc is silly. I have a crucial m4 bought gazillions of years ago and did not disable anything and it's still going strong without a hiccup (no special measures taken).

It's served a long useful life and only has 8% wear.

OK going through my order history with cclonline and I have the precise info now:

    128GB Crucial M4 (£149.94) bought November 2011
It's approaching a good 5 years of service and going strong with just 8% wear.

Far excedded what some people were worried about back then about SSDs dying in 1-2 years.

It's outlasted any mechanical drive. A mechanical drive would have had reliability issues and would have been really reall noisy now and start to get driver errors as the bearing start to fail.
