Student Loan advice needed for GF

Hi all, just after a bit of help regarding the following if possible....
My GF currently has a student loan from about 5yrs ago (current balance is about £4700) The loan was taken out 2002, in 2003 she withdrew from university due to being diagnosed with M.E. (something she has suffered with through her teens)
For the past 2 years the illness has been to the extent that she has been unable to work, resulting in her currently recieving Income Support (she couldnt claim Incapacity Benefit as she doesnt have enough NI contributions).
She is very concerned that the loan amount is constantly rising (especially now the interest rate has increased to 4.8%) and can't ever see a time when she can be earning enough to pay it off (when in a healthy enough state to work) due to the illness.
Reading on the student loan website I see that some people may have their loans cancelled due to illness, I was wondering whether anybody had any information on that and were able to advise me on the best way of pursuing it should it be possible to do.
Many thanks in advance
Chris

Do you have a link to the information about the loan being cancelled due to illness? I am not aware of that?
Edit: Found it.Gone ... or have I?0 -

I doubt that ME would render someone permanently unfit for work. You would need medical evidence to that effect in order for the SLC to cancel the loan amount.Gone ... or have I?0 -

I agree. And in the nicest possible way, I don't think it is productive for you to encourage this line of thinking. I think it would be better if the OP could reassure her that she will get better.0
