Seller adding on additional postage...wants more money

Hey,
Where do i stand with this?
I won an auction for 4 tshirts on ebay from a guy in america and he quoted me $7 shipping. I sent the money off international signed for because the post office said i could only send cash and now he has just emailed me saying he miscalculated the shipping and if i still want the tshirts i have to send him more money (he doesn't accept paypal). So i asked how much more and his email back said...'[FONT=Arial, Verdana]more than ten close to 15 it will cost way to much to send it international'
Now, maybe this is me being suspicious but why is he not giving me an exact amount and where do i stand with him demanding more money? Can he do this?
Thanks, Carrie.

Tricky one this..normally I would say stick to your guns as he can't ask for more after the auction closed. However, and this is a big however, you have sent cash..which of course is frowned upon by ebay, therefore if he turns funny and refuses to ship without more money you are completely stuck.
Even if you report him to ebay you could still lose as if they took your complaint seriously they might suspend him, in which case he has your money and you can't even leave feedback to warn other potential buyers.
EDIT:Half my post has just disappeared...I'll try again
I'm not sure what to suggest here as ebay will not recover your funds for you as ebay protection now only covers paypal payments and has never covered cash anyway. What sort of amount are we talking about in total and what is the seller feedback like?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. dont send anymore money its his problem with the postage you paid what was asked in the sell but to be frank with you i dont think you will get your t shirts and i dont think(maybe wrong)you will beable to get your money back as you sent cash sorry0

The auction total came to $27 which exchanged down to £14 including postage. He has said he'll send the cash back if i don't want to send more money but then i'll lose money exchanging it back and i won't have the tshirts (i think he was just bummed that they didn't go for more money as they are wwe tshirts)
I'm really undecided as what i want to do.
He is a fairly new ebayer with a feedback score of 6 all positive.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0 -
Forgive me if I'm wrong, (and someone will probably point out that I am) but I thought you had to ship at the postage price quoted in the listing. I have on occasion misguessed the postage and shipped at a slight loss on postage. However I always state on the listing that overseas buyers have to email for a postage quote before bidding. My broad mind and narrow waist are slowly swapping places!!0

I`m more than certain that he can`t ask for more postage than was first quoted. If he didnt quote postage in the advert and you emailed him to find out then he needed to give you a final amount.0

The problem with this is the OP can insist all they like but they can't force seller to ship. As per my post no 2, if they make a complaint to ebay it is likely that the seller will get suspended, but that doesn't get the OP their money back. The situation with regard to what ebay terms and condition apply would be different if the OP had paid by paypal as the money would not then be in danger..using cash has put the OP in a position where they could stand to lose both the cash and the goods.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. As you've sent cash and haven't much hope of getting it back, I'd ask him to send one less t-shirt, post would be less, as less weight, he'd have extra money in the other t-shirt and you'd have something to show for your money.
It sounds like he's made a genuine mistake, as $27 including postage seems quite low..0 -

Thats a good point. I am going to email him now and ask if he would be willing to do that.

Just a thought... was the postage quoted stated to where you are ie did it say worldwide or whatever?
If it did. others right, he shouldn't increase the price

Since it was his mistake, he should take the loss, but if he's unwilling to do so then RFW's suggestion sounds like an acceptable compromise.0
