Maybe because I didn't know it existed - so presumably most other people didn't either.

Cheap or dear, if you don't know about them they can't get customers.

There are a large number of MVNOs, more than you may imagine. Websites that list various mobile deals often list only the bigger networks and ignore the smaller ones.

I rang them today for a PAC code and I was told I would not be allowed a refund on any unused credit. Are they allowed to do this? Keep my money even though they are closing down?

The only reason I want my PAC code is because they are closing down and I want to move on.

    Can anyone advise?

Their website states that unused credit will be refunded. No details are available yet, I suspect no refunds will be made till nearer or even after the date of closure 8th August 2016

So does the email sent to users..
    "Hello,

We’re sorry to let you know that the Post Office mobile service will no longer be available after 8th August 2016.

We’re aware that all our customers will need some time to use up credit and move to another provider, so your last date to top up your phone will be 22nd June 2016.

If you want to move to another provider and keep your number then please contact us by the 4th August to request a PAC.

Please be assured that any unused credit on your phone will be eligible for a refund and further details on the process will be published online at a later date https://www.postoffice.co.uk/mobile or you can call our call centre from 150* or 0333 777 3300** (*Calls cost 10p a call from a Post Office Mobile **Calls charged at standard network rate).

    Kind regards,
    The Post Office Mobile team"

The link in the email says:
Do I have to stay on the service until the 8th August?

No you can leave at any time up to this date, but you must have used up your credit. We will only process refunds from July onwards.

I have outstanding credit on my phone - how do I get a refund?

If you have outstanding credit on your phone when the service is terminated on the 8th August then we will refund this to you. Details of the refund process will be available in late June and we will notify you.

If you port out your number, you will no longer have an account with them.

If taken literally, the email says that only if you stay with them until the very end, they will refund your money. This seems to cater only for those who choose to not port their number or port it only from July onwards.
