BT just 're-brand' what they sell so their kit is just as reliable/unreliable as any other on the market.
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

I can thoroughly recommend Panasonic cordless phones. I have a single base station with four assorted handsets and they are great. I do use a separate answering machine but Panasonic do exactly what you're looking for. They tend to be a bit more expensive than the likes of BT, Binatone but IMHO they are worth paying the extra to get the quality and features. One feature I like is that the phone books are held in the handsets themselves and you can copy entries or the whole phone book between handsets (except for the very basic models). Worth checking out Ebay as that's where I got my original phone from and then added handsets as I came across them at my local car boot sale. Another place to check (apart from Argos) is TLC Direct. They do what you want - see :- http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Telephones_and_Accessories_Index/Panasonic_Dect_Cordless_Phones_1/index.html
