working 20hrs NMW, is this a problem?

Im hearing there are efferts to try to get people on low income to earn more?

Any details about this?

If somebody is working only 20hrs NMW and getting housing benefit, TC and child benefits, and they are happy and content on this low income and simple life, is there a problem with this?

I hear they will try to get you to work more hours or earn more, but what are the details pleasE?

There is no problem at all working 20 hours a week and not wanting to work any more.

You do not need to work any number of hours to get or continue to get housing benefit for you and your children.

If you were claiming job seekers allowance and not working enough hours then yes they will try and get you to work more hours so you can sign off.

That depends on your own circumstances.

    Single
    Single with child(ren)
    Couple without child(ren)
    Couple with child(ren)
    Disabilities

    ..and so on.

    Ask on the Benefits board.

It's those on the new Universal Credit who are getting hassled to work longer hours in order to get off the benefit. Even those who are working full time are being told to find more work or a better job.

The problem will come later when the children are grown up, you lose the child related benefits and have little opportunity to earn a decent full time wage and be independent.

If you are happy and content with a simple life that is great, but why should people have to work full-time in order to fund your happy and simple life? If you are happy to just earn for 20 hours, and not claim benefits, then go for it. But you aren't. And it isn't a simple life. It is living off everyone else. Housing benefit and tax credits money does not grow on trees - the rest of it have to earn it for you!

I certainly hope they will try to get you to earn more or work more hours. I have to. But then I have to pay my own bills and not expect others to pay them for me.
