Keyhole Gardens
Hi Everyone
I have been looking at keyhole gardens on the web and am very impressed with the idea. As our builders have taken over the entire garden as a builder's yard, we don't actually have a garden to speak of yet, but I am happily kicking around ideas I can incorporate into the new garden plan for next year. Meanwhile, I have a few pots on the go and a bit of vertical gardening around the edges to start me off.
The main idea is to be all raised beds or containers, to save bending, weeding, digging etc and we are very taken with the "square foot" approach to food production as well. (The whole garden isn't very big, only about 10m by 15.)
Anyway, back to the point!
I sort of fancy the idea of a keyhole bed as a self-feeding raised veg production area, particularly as conventional compost production isn't really going to happen, but...
Are they really suitable for a UK climate? All the examples I have seen are either in Africa or areas of the US which are subject to drought. We're in soggy Lancashire, so will everything be too wet?
There are a couple of closed posts on here from a few years ago, but I was wondering if any of you experienced gardeners would like to share opinions or experiences to help me decide.
Sorry for the long post :embarasse

That looks super! I imagine our raised beds will be somewhat more "raised than theirs, as we're aiming for no bending as well as no digging etc, but it's good to know that they don't wash out in the UK climate.
Thanks MM74 for passing that on.0 -

Poss. the central 'tube' of composting material would need covering with old carpet etc. so the heat can be kept up?0 -

I think I'd grow and add comfrey to the mix. You really can't have too much of it.0 -
They say to put a lid on. I like the look of them think they would be ace for hungry plants like toms.
Looking at the pics again they are using the lid of the dustbin.0
